Instagram updates: How to take advantage of new features

Instagram has been testing a new algorithm and changed (again) the way we consume content on their platform. This is not the first or the last update, so we can’t say it is surprising.

You have probably noticed your feed is looking different. Currently, some of the most popular search terms on Google are – “Instagram update” and “New Instagram layout.”

Meta has announced several updates and the latest features for Reels across Facebook and Instagram, trying its best to chase the success of TikTok.

New formats and Reels as a priority

Photo and video content have been reformatted and now take up more screen space. Everything looks more extended, but a blurred border in the background appears for posts that are not formatted to the new 9:16 ratio. That means the caption and likes are now placed on top of the photo, which is quite different.

Reels became so popular that it makes sense for Instagram to lean into the trend that brings more engagement. Now any user can remix any video they see in the app. This is crucial for video creators giving them more inspiration for Reels.

You can now create longer Instagram Reels, up to 90 seconds, instead of one minute long.

Thanks to this updated brand will have more time to explain their story and show off products in action—whatever business owners need current and potential customers to see.

On top of that, Instagram’s algorithm shows more suggested posts from users you don’t follow.

More creative tools

Instagram has also brought a few more creative audio tools, templates, and various options to make Reels more engaging. Features previously designed for Instagram Stories, such as Poll, Emoji slider stickers, and Quiz, became available for Reels.

Another fantastic feature is the ability to import your audio so that you may add commentary or a background sound from any other video that is at least five seconds long.

The additional tool will allow creators to make new Reels using the same structure they watched.

Few words from the CEO

According to CEO Adam Mosseri, Instagram has been moved to a place where video becomes a more significant part of the home experience, and content becomes more immersive.

Their main goal is to find out how to advance the platform forward in a world where people will be mobile-first.

Why has Instagram changed?

Not all Instagram users are happy about the changes, but moving to video first will undoubtedly tailor its algorithm to people’s interests.

Updates will focus on monetizing Reels, which will help in generating revenues.

Giant corporate houses, outlets, and celebrities now return to their Instagram accounts to reach their audience directly.

Talking about changes in brand use, they could be convenient for inviting takes on new products, with users being able to share a quick response over Reels clips. That could also lead to brand announcements and get the audience to react to posts boosting reach and engagement.
